11-11-08 H&J house plus Veterans Concert with M&S's kids.

 11-11-08

Heather and Justin worked hard to make it all come together.  They hosted a shower for someone in Heather's office.  Besides preparing yummy food, the house looked wonderful.  Heather did a fabulous job sewing the curtains (on a shoestring) and getting other parts of the interiordecorating in place.   It is amazing what they have done with their new home.

Veterans Day Concert with M&S's kids.

We arrived early and got on the 6th row.  What a treat.  the kids could see everything.  Nathan loved and drums.  Andee was so positive about it all and Becca did a great job keeping tuned into all the events.

Because the concert was conducted by the "new" member of the University, everything was absolutely perfect. My, my, he will be a real asset to the community. We so enjoyed every part of the Concert Events.

It was such a great teaching experience for the kids, and I loved explaining so many wonderful things about our Veterans and what they have done and still do to preserve our freedom. The kids were amazed during the performance of the song "Salute to the Armed Forces".  They just couldn't get over how many people stood from each devision of the military as their song was sung.

The kids were moved by seeing the two very old Veterans that were honored from the World War II.  It was so heart wrenching when one of them broke down and cried as the soloist sang "Last Full Measure of Devotion" describing how some didn't come home.

To finish up a memorable evening together, we dashed to the famous "Ice Cream" store and enjoyed our traditional treat together.  What can I say other than... Grand kids are Great !!

11-9-08 M&S new house

9-27-08 - first pictures of their house

Pictures of their house with the heat system of 8 foot deep trenches dug in the back.  The money they save from this system will pay for itself in 4 to 5 years.  The inside picture is of the first level of the garage.  It has been declared by Catherine Koch Barns that all future cousin parties will be held in Michael's heated garage which can be hosed out.     (When I told my mom I wanted a hose down kitchen, she said, "Were you born in a barn???" Hmmmmm.)

11-9-08 - second set of pictures

Pictures of their new house going up.  Front and Back.  Yes, Michael's garage takes up 1/3 of the space of the house.  It is the brownish color on the side ... two levels.  He already drove his jeep, without breaks, into the basement area.  That was scary... when it just barely rolled to a stop 5 feet before hitting the wall.

Sherry's brother has built ALL of this while going to school, working on his MBA.   He has kept up with the neighbor's house who is being built with a crew. The inspector said he doesn't see houses built with this kind of quality any more.  They will have all the brick on in two weeks.  They are thrilled to have such a nice amount of space.

David, Madalyn and I worked hard to clean out the 2 garden areas to get them ready for winter.  Their wonderful neighbor gave us several bags of mulch.   It will turn the clay soil into a plant friendly place in the spring.

Ethan wore his "mullet" hair piece to work, with a name tag of "Dr. Moulette" pinned to his shirt pocket.

Halloween evening we went Trunk or Treating.  Within 15 minutes we had run out of candy.  There must have been over 50 cars.  The Neighborhood committee passed out free donuts and apple juice to everyone there.  People enjoyed each other.

 P1030985

It turned out great.

Jack did some art work as well.
 P1030993

The sand pile, with rocks for sitting, was a favorite place to play on the warm fall day.

 P1030991

They played so well together. It was fun to be with them.
